Telehealth
Telehealth is genuinely useful when the appointment is a conversation — going through results, a repeat script for something stable, a referral, a certificate, or checking in on how a new medicine is going. No parking to find, no waiting room, and often no time away from work.
It is the wrong tool when someone needs to look at you, listen to your chest, feel your abdomen, take your blood pressure or examine a lump. Booking a phone appointment for those things usually means two appointments instead of one.
What it covers

Medicare requires that you have had a face-to-face appointment with one of our doctors in the past twelve months for most telehealth appointments. If you are new to the practice, your first appointment needs to be in person.
You book like any other appointment. The doctor rings you at the appointed time — make sure the number on file is right and that you are somewhere you can talk privately.
Electronic prescriptions are sent to your phone and can be filled at any pharmacy. Referrals and certificates can be emailed where appropriate.
One of the best uses of telehealth. Straightforward results can be gone through properly on the phone without you taking time off.
Anything that needs examining: chest or abdominal symptoms, a lump, a rash you want looked at, an injury, blood pressure, an ear. Reception will steer you if you are unsure.
Medicare-eligible telehealth consultations are bulk billed with a valid Medicare card, on the same basis as an in-person visit.
How it works here
Generally no. Medicare requires an existing relationship with the practice for most telehealth appointments, so your first appointment needs to be in person. After that, telehealth is available.
Usually phone, which is what most people prefer and what works most reliably. Tell reception if video would suit you better.
It happens, and it is the right call when it happens. Reception will find you an appointment.
Sometimes, where it is clinically appropriate. A certificate still requires an actual consultation and an honest assessment, and some situations need you to be seen.
