Open Mon–Fri 8:30am – 5:00pm
Your first visit
Four steps, start to finish.
- 01
Book
Online through HotDoc, or ring (02) 4311 3800. Tell reception roughly what it is about so they can set aside the right amount of time.
- 02
Arrive ten minutes early
First visit only. Bring photo ID, your Medicare card, any concession card, and a list of your medicines or the boxes.
- 03
See your GP
Standard consultations run up to 15 minutes. Raise the important thing first rather than at the door — and say if you have a list.
- 04
Bloods and follow-up
4Cyte collects on site, so tests can usually be done straight after. Book the results appointment before you leave.
The people who answer the phone
Reception is where most of this gets sorted — the longer appointment, the urgent slot, the question about what something costs. They would far rather you asked than guessed.
Practice information
On this page.
New patients
New patients welcome.
We are an appointment-based practice, though we do our best to accommodate walk-ins. Standard consultations run up to 15 minutes. We are currently accepting new patients.
If this is your first visit, please arrive at least ten minutes early so reception has time to set you up properly, or call ahead and ask about completing your registration before you come in.
What to bring to your first appointment
- Photo ID.
- A current Medicare card, plus any concession, pensioner or DVA card.
- A list of your current medicines, or simply bring the boxes.
- Any recent letters, discharge summaries or results from a hospital or specialist — helpful, not essential.
- WorkCover patients: please notify your employer and bring their contact details so payment can be arranged.
Health assessments, complex problems, skin checks, minor procedures and wound care all need extra time. Ask reception for a longer appointment when you book.
What will it cost?
Find out before you book.
Pick the closest situation. This is a guide rather than a quote — reception will always confirm the exact amount before your appointment.
Fees & billing
Official recognition
A Medicare Bulk Billing Practice
This is the Australian Government’s Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program mark. It identifies practices that bulk bill, and you will see it on our shopfront and at reception.
We are a bulk billing practice.
Standard GP consultations are bulk billed for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card. Please present your current card at reception at the time of your appointment.
Services that Medicare does not cover attract a private fee. Where that applies, reception will tell you the amount before your appointment — you will never be surprised by a bill on the way out.
The kinds of things that usually attract a fee
- WorkCover and third-party insurance consultations.
- Pre-employment, insurance and driver medical assessments.
- Medical reports and letters prepared for a third party.
- Travel vaccines and some consumables, charged at the supplier price we pay.
- Transfer of records from another practice, where that practice charges for it.
- Patients without a valid Medicare card.
Not sure whether your appointment is bulk billed? Ring reception on (02) 4311 3800 and ask. They would much rather tell you beforehand.
Cancellations
Late, cancelled and missed appointments.
Appointments are in short supply and a missed one is an appointment somebody else needed. If you cannot make it, please give us as much notice as you can — a phone call frees the slot for another patient, often the same morning.
A did not attend, or DNA, is an appointment you do not come to and do not cancel. It is the one thing we cannot fill at short notice, and it is the main reason someone else waits longer than they should.
Our DNA policy
- The first two missed appointments are recorded on your file. No fee applies.
- After three missed appointments, a $50 fee applies.
- The fee is payable before your next appointment can be booked.
- It is a practice fee, not a Medicare service, so there is no rebate and it cannot be bulk billed.
Cancelling costs nothing, however late it is. Ring reception on (02) 4311 3800, or cancel through the same booking system you used to make the appointment. Even fifteen minutes is usually enough for us to offer the slot to someone waiting.
If something genuinely unavoidable came up, tell reception. They would rather hear the reason than apply a fee to someone who was in hospital, or stuck without a phone.
Appointments
Booking an appointment.
Book online through HotDoc using the button on this page, or ring reception on (02) 4311 3800.
Standard appointments are 15 minutes. If you have more than one thing to raise, say so when you book and reception will set aside a longer slot. It is the single most useful thing you can do to make an appointment go well.
Opening hours
- Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Saturday and Sunday: closed
- NSW public holidays: closed
Contacting your doctor
Getting a message to your GP.
Calls for a doctor go to our practice nurse in the first instance, or the nurse will return your call as soon as she can. She will discuss it with your doctor and arrange a call back where that is needed.
If your doctor has asked you to ring, let reception know and they will either put you through or take a message for the doctor to return your call.
Prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions.
Keep an eye on your supply and book before you run out rather than on the last tablet. An appointment is required for all repeat prescriptions so your GP can review what you are taking and prescribe appropriately.
It does not have to be a long appointment, and for stable medicines a telehealth consultation often works. Electronic prescriptions are sent to your phone and can be filled at any pharmacy.
Test results
How results are given.
Results are discussed in a booked appointment rather than read out over the phone, so there is time to explain what they mean and what happens next. Book the follow-up when the test is ordered and it is already in the diary.
We will attempt to contact you about anything urgent. Systems are not perfect though — if you have had a test and heard nothing, please ring us rather than assuming all is well.
Telehealth
Phone appointments.
Telehealth is available for existing patients. Medicare generally requires that you have had a face-to-face appointment with one of our doctors in the previous twelve months, so if you are new to the practice your first appointment needs to be in person.
If you have a cough, cold, sore throat or fever, please ring us and ask about a telehealth appointment rather than sitting in the waiting room.
Telehealth suits results, scripts, referrals and follow-ups. Anything that needs examining — a chest, an abdomen, a lump, a rash, an ear, a blood pressure — is better in person.
After-hours care
When we are closed.
In an emergency, call 000. Do not wait and do not drive yourself.
For urgent care that is not an emergency, call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222, staffed by registered nurses at any hour, or use the National Health Services Directory at healthdirect.gov.au to find an after-hours service near you.

Home visits
Home visits.
Home visits may be arranged in certain circumstances, by prior arrangement with your regular doctor and within our local area. Ring reception to discuss whether it is possible for your situation.
If someone is in severe pain, badly unwell, or you are worried about their safety, call 000 rather than waiting for a visit.
Privacy & confidentiality
Your record is confidential.
Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain the security of personal health information at all times, and it is accessed only by authorised staff for the purpose of your care.
Your information is not shared with your employer, your family or anyone else without your consent, except in the narrow circumstances required by law. If you would like a copy of your own record, ask reception.
Correspondence
How we send information.
Electronic medical information is transmitted in encrypted form using secure messaging software. Diagnostic correspondence and results are forwarded to the relevant doctor and marked confidential.
Patient information is only sent by email where it is securely encrypted. We do not accept clinical enquiries or requests by email, and we do not send patient information to personal email addresses. For anything sensitive, please ring reception.
Communication assistance
Interpreters and support.
If you need help with communication — a language interpreter, for instance — tell reception when you book, or on arrival. A phone interpreter may be available.
For an Auslan interpreter, a booking can be made through the National Auslan Booking Service at nabs.org.au or by phoning 1800 246 945.
Compliments & complaints
Tell us either way.
We would genuinely rather hear it. If something has gone well, telling us means we keep doing it. If something has not, please raise it with reception, with our practice manager, or in writing, and give us the chance to put it right.
We will acknowledge your complaint, look into it, and let you know the outcome. If you are still not satisfied, you can take it to the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission, which is independent of this practice. Reception can give you their contact details.
Reminder system
Recalls and reminders.
We run a recall and reminder system for screening, immunisations and care plan reviews, because the whole point of preventive care is that it happens on time rather than when someone remembers.
You may receive a text message, phone call or letter inviting you to book. If you would prefer not to be contacted this way, tell reception and we will note it on your file.
Location & parking
Finding us.
We are at Shop 12, 297–299 Brisbane Water Drive, West Gosford NSW 2250, in the shopfront complex on Brisbane Water Drive. Look for our entrance beside 4Cyte Pathology.
There is parking on site at the complex. Being on Brisbane Water Drive makes us a short drive from Gosford, Point Clare, Narara, Wyoming, Springfield, Tascott, Koolewong, East Gosford, Erina, Green Point and Lisarow.
Practice policies
Our written policies.
Take a look inside the clinic if you have not been in before. Each of our policies is here to download and read in full. Printed copies are also available at reception — just ask, and we will print or email you whichever one you would like.

- Using Social Media in Our Practice How the practice and our staff use social media.
- Your Rights as a Patient What you can expect from us, and how to raise a concern.

MyMedicare
Strengthen your care — register for MyMedicare.
Free, voluntary, and it links your family's care to this practice. If you already think of Gosford Doctors as your regular clinic, registering simply makes that formal.
What is MyMedicare?
A voluntary patient registration model introduced by the Australian Government. It lets you register with your regular practice and nominate your preferred GP, which strengthens the relationship between you and the team looking after you.
What it means for you
- Better access — including longer Medicare-funded telehealth consultations.
- Better continuity with your preferred GP and the wider team here.
- Better planning for long-term conditions and ongoing care.
- Free and voluntary — you can leave at any time, with no effect on your Medicare rights or benefits.
Questions
Patient questions, answered.
The things reception is asked most often. If yours is not here, ring us on (02) 4311 3800.
Is Gosford Doctors a bulk billing practice?
Yes. Standard GP consultations are bulk billed for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card. Please present your current card at reception. Services Medicare does not cover attract a private fee, and reception will tell you the amount before your appointment.
What if I don't have a Medicare card?
A fee applies, payable on the day. Depending on your cover you may be able to claim part of it back through private health insurance. Ring reception on (02) 4311 3800 before you book so you know the amount.
How do I book an appointment?
Book online through HotDoc using the button on this page, or call reception on (02) 4311 3800. We are an appointment-based practice, though we do our best to accommodate walk-ins.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Photo ID, a current Medicare card, and any concession, pensioner or DVA card. Bring a list of your medicines or the boxes themselves, plus any recent letters or results from a hospital or specialist. Arrive ten minutes early so reception has time to register you.
How long is a standard appointment?
Up to 15 minutes. If you have several things to raise, ask reception for a longer appointment when you book. Health assessments, skin checks, minor procedures and care plans all need extra time.
Are you taking new patients?
Yes, we are currently accepting new patients.
What are your opening hours?
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. We are closed on weekends and NSW public holidays.
Where are you and is there parking?
Shop 12, 297–299 Brisbane Water Drive, West Gosford NSW 2250. Look for our entrance beside 4Cyte Pathology. There is parking on site at the complex.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes, for existing patients. Medicare generally requires that you have had a face-to-face appointment with one of our doctors in the previous twelve months, so if you are new your first appointment needs to be in person.
Can I get a repeat prescription without an appointment?
No. An appointment is required for all repeat prescriptions so your GP can review what you are taking. It does not have to be long, and for stable medicines a telehealth consultation often works.
How do I get my test results?
Book a follow-up appointment, ideally at the same time as the test is ordered. Results are discussed in an appointment rather than read out over the phone. We will attempt to contact you about anything urgent.
Can I have a blood test at the clinic?
Yes. 4Cyte Pathology collects on site, so in most cases bloods can be done straight after your appointment. Check the current collection hours with reception.
Can I transfer my records from another practice?
Yes. Ask reception for a transfer request and we will write to your previous practice. Transfers can take a few weeks, and some practices charge an administrative fee.
Can I register for MyMedicare here?
Yes, if you consider Gosford Doctors your regular practice. It is free and voluntary, does not affect your Medicare rights or benefits, and you can leave at any time. Ask our team and they will help you register.
Can I request a particular doctor?
Yes, and it usually helps. Mention who you would like to see when you book — continuity does a lot of the work in general practice.
Do I need an interpreter, and can you arrange one?
Tell reception when you book or on arrival and a phone interpreter may be available. For an Auslan interpreter, a booking can be made through NABS at nabs.org.au or by phoning 1800 246 945.
How do I make a complaint?
Please raise it with reception, with our practice manager, or in writing, and give us the chance to put it right. We will acknowledge it, look into it and let you know the outcome. If you are still not satisfied you can take it to the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission, which is independent of this practice.
What do I do if I need a doctor outside your hours?
In an emergency, call 000. Otherwise call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for nurse advice at any hour, use the National Health Services Directory at healthdirect.gov.au, or go to Gosford Hospital at 75 Holden Street, Gosford.
This page is general information for patients of Gosford Doctors. It is not advice about your situation and it does not replace a consultation. If you are worried about a symptom, book an appointment or call us. In an emergency, call 000.
Ready to book?
