Gosford Doctors opened its doors to make general practice on the Central Coast easier to get to and easier to afford. Standard consultations are bulk billed for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card, the doors are level with the footpath, and there is a castle in the corner for the kids.

Why we opened

We opened because getting in to see a GP had become the hard part.

Ask anyone on the Central Coast about seeing a doctor and you will hear the same two things: the wait, and the cost. Families were putting off appointments because the next opening was three weeks away, or because the gap payment landed in the same week as the electricity bill.

Gosford Doctors was built to take both of those problems off the table. We bulk bill standard consultations for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card. We hold same-day appointments every day for the things that cannot wait. And we built the clinic from an empty shell so the rooms, the corridors and the front door would work for everyone who walked through them — including people who use a wheelchair, parents with a pram, and anyone who finds a medical centre a stressful place to be.

We are a small practice by design. Our GPs, our practice nurse and our reception team know the regulars by name, and that continuity is the whole point of general practice. Meet the team.

01 · Reception

The first thirty seconds

Our reception desk is the first thing you see, and the people behind it set the tone for everything that follows. They will check your Medicare card, tell you what the wait looks like, and let the doctor know if you are having a rough day.

If you are new, they will walk you through the registration form rather than handing you a clipboard and hoping. If you are not sure which appointment you need, tell them what is going on and they will book you the right length of time with the right doctor.

02 · Waiting

A waiting room that is not a corridor of strangers

Natural light, real chairs, and enough space between them that you are not sitting on top of someone with a cough. Consult rooms run off a wide central corridor, so you are never far from the front desk.

We book realistically rather than stacking appointments, which is the only thing that actually keeps a waiting room moving.

03 · Treatment room

A treatment room built for more than a blood pressure cuff

Three curtained bays, height-adjustable beds, a dedicated vaccine fridge and proper procedure lighting. It is where the wound care, the dressings, the ECGs, the minor skin procedures and most of the immunisations happen.

Having the room means we can do things on the day instead of sending you somewhere else and asking you to come back next week.

04 · Kids

Somewhere for the kids to be kids

Every parent knows the difference between a fifteen-minute wait with a bored three-year-old and a fifteen-minute wait with a castle, a box of blocks and a shelf of picture books.

The play corner sits in the family waiting area with a window and a view of the trees. It is a small thing that makes a genuinely hard morning easier, and it is the part of the clinic that gets the most use.

Step-free from the car park

Automatic doors straight off the shopfront, no steps and no ramp to negotiate. The entrance is level with the footpath at Shop 12.

A wheelchair you can borrow

There is a practice wheelchair by the treatment room if you need it to get from the car to the consult room. Ask at reception.

Corridors and rooms with room to turn

Wide corridors, an accessible bathroom and consult rooms that fit a wheelchair, a pram and a support person without anyone reversing into a wall.

Interpreters and communication support

Our GPs, practice nurse, practice manager and reception team — all registered with AHPRA, all living and working on the Coast. Continuity of care is the reason general practice works, and it only happens when you see the same faces.

New patients are welcome and walk-ins are accepted. All Medicare-eligible consultations are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card. Some items, including privately purchased vaccines and consumables, attract a fee.
